Obesity can cause problems for snakes so you must be careful to avoid feeding your snake too much.

Ball pythons in the wild eat a wide variety of rodents aside from mice and they also eat small birds. This includes domestic mice or rats multimammate mice gerbils and hamsters. Ball python hatchlings are approximately 10 inches in length.
Mature adult ball pythons will often thrive and maintain good body weight when fed once every two to three weeks. In captivity you can try to feed them any appropriately sized commercially bred rodent. Ball pythons like other snakes eat varying sizes of prey depending on how big they are. This is a species in which mature females are typically much larger than the males.
You can also feed them very small chicks or ducklings. After a few weeks like this you can feel confident that your snake now has the appetite to eat their new prey source. In the wild adult ball pythons eat only an average of 10x year and even snakes in the most naturalistic enclosures with the best care will still fast usually during cooler times of the year. Adult ball pythons will eat adult mice and rats when they get big enough.
