Ball screw delta printer. A motor turns a threaded rod and that causes a nut to go up or down. 15 88 add to cart. Ball screws are much more accurate but who cares when it costs 3 5x the price and the extruder can t take advantage of the accuracy. Most inexpensive 3d printers use a type of lead screw to move some part of the printer in the vertical direction.
Quick peek at my 3d printer. I m not sure how it would help a 3d printer. There are no shear forces. Ballscrew style delta 3d printer.
This would be useful for something like a delta cnc mill where the tool head on the workpiece would cause great shear forces. Using a lead screw for the z makes sense because the z has gravity to deal with and using a belt for that doesnt make much sense since it could move when you remove power from the motors. Eliminating backlash is awesome for a 3d printer but it s not obvious how a thread that gives under excessive load is a plus unless you ve crashed your printhead into the bed of the printer. Not a pretty build but makes the job.

The benefit of lead screws are rigidity shear forces would not affect the delta end effector. I have given up on 3d printers as the cost to fix the issues this printer has would be the cost of another printer. Lead screws would almost be a requirement.
